In June, the peak species in Cabo are yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, Pacific crevalle jack, black skipjack, almaco jack, colorado snapper, Pacific dog snapper, barred pargo, Pacific white snook and silky shark. Here’s everything that’s in season, and what you might see from the boat.

Rules to know in June

  • Closed season: no shark or ray fishing in Mexico’s Pacific waters from May 1 to July 31.
  • Billfish: 1 per angler per day by law; in Cabo we follow a local rule of 1 per boat per day, and we encourage releasing every billfish.

At their peak: yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, Pacific crevalle jack, black skipjack, almaco jack, colorado snapper, Pacific dog snapper, barred pargo, Pacific white snook and silky shark. Also in good numbers: striped marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi), California yellowtail, striped bonito, bigeye trevally, Mexican needlefish, leopard grouper, finescale triggerfish, yellow snapper and giant hawkfish.

It’s not whale season; sightings in June are occasional.

Is shark fishing allowed in June?

No. Mexico’s Pacific closed season for sharks and rays runs May 1 to July 31. We release every shark all year.
