Seasonal Fishing Guide — Which Boat, When?

Winter (Dec-Mar)

STRIPED MARLIN PEAK SEASON

The Sea of Cortez cools to the low 70s°F, bringing massive schools of striped marlin within miles of shore. Yellowfin tuna and wahoo are also active. This is arguably Cabo's most productive season.

Recommended boats:

30'–38' offshore boats ($799–$1,200). Half-day trips produce well because fish are close.

Spring (Apr-May)

TRANSITION SEASON

Water temperatures begin rising. Late striped marlin action transitions into early blue marlin and sailfish. Dorado start appearing near shore. Roosterfish become very active inshore.

Recommended boats:

Pangas ($453) for inshore roosterfish. 30'–35' boats ($799–$1,139) for offshore.

Summer (Jun-Sep)

BLUE MARLIN & DORADO PEAK

Water temperatures exceed 80°F. Blue marlin, dorado, sailfish, and yellowfin tuna are all at peak levels. This is when Cabo produces grander marlin (1,000+ pounds). The warmest months also bring wahoo in September.

Recommended boats:

35'–45' sportfishers ($1,019–$3,915) for serious marlin. Pangas ($453) for nearshore dorado.

Fall (Oct-Nov)

TOURNAMENT SEASON & MULTI-SPECIES

October is tournament month — including the legendary Bisbee's Black & Blue. Blue marlin, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and dorado overlap, making this the best multi-species season. Book early — boats fill fast.

Recommended boats:

45' Viking or CABO ($1,935–$3,915) for tournaments. 32'–40' boats ($1,019–$1,335) for recreational multi-species.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right charter boat?

Consider three things: your group size, your target species, and your budget. For 1-3 anglers fishing inshore, a panga ($456) or 26-foot Shamrock ($715) is ideal. For offshore marlin and tuna with 4-6 anglers, a 30-38 foot sportfisher ($799-$1,200) covers all species. For large groups (8-10) or tournament-class fishing, our 45-foot Viking or 60’ Hatteras ($1,935-$3,915) provide the ultimate experience.

What is included in the charter price?

Every Top Anglers charter includes the captain, crew, all fishing tackle and equipment, live bait, ice, water, Mexican fishing license (1), and dock fees. There are no hidden fees, no booking commissions, and no surprises. The price you see is the price you pay.

Should I book a half-day or full-day trip?

Half-day trips (5 hours) are excellent for most anglers — they provide enough time to reach offshore fishing grounds and target marlin, wahoo, and dorado. Full-day trips (8 hours) are recommended during slower months when fish may be farther offshore, for dedicated blue marlin targeting, large schools of tuna, or when you simply want more time on the water.

Can I book a boat for a non-fishing cruise?

Yes. Some of our boats are available for sunset cruises, whale watching (December-April), snorkeling trips to Chileno Bay or Santa Maria, and El Arco sightseeing tours. Contact us for custom trip pricing.
