The town has earned the nickname "Marlin Capital of the World" for good reason.

But with dozens of charter companies operating out of the Cabo San Lucas marina, choosing the right one for your trip can feel overwhelming. Fleet quality varies widely. Some operators own their boats. Others broker third-party vessels. Pricing ranges from $315 for a panga to $9,000 for a superyacht. And what is "included" in the price differs from company to company.

#1 — Top Anglers Sportfishing Charters

Top Anglers is a family-owned charter company run by the Vargas family out of Marina Principal. You book directly with the family, online or by WhatsApp, phone or email: no booking platforms and no booking fees.

The published price includes captain, crew, tackle, bait (live when available), ice, water, dock fees, taxes and one fishing license (extra licenses $30). The fleet runs from 23-foot pangas for inshore trips to a 45-foot CABO Express, a 44-foot Viking and a 60-foot Hatteras.

Tournament credentials: the crew of our 45-foot CABO Express won a prize at the 2025 Bisbee's Black & Blue; founder Victor Vargas captained a team that placed first on two of three days at the 33rd CIPS-M Big Game World Championship; and Jason Bailey, a longtime family friend who helps our US guests plan their trips, earned bronze for Team USA at the 2025 Pan-American Billfish Championship.

#2 — Pisces Sportfishing

Founded: 1978 | Fleet: about 36 boats (23'–130') | Starting price: $300 + tax

Pisces is the longest-running charter fleet in Cabo San Lucas and one of the most recognized names in Mexican sportfishing. It started as a family business in La Paz in 1978 with one 28-foot boat, and it keeps an archive of weekly fishing reports that many anglers read before a Cabo trip.

Pisces cites an IGFA Lifetime Achievement Award for Conservation and says it was the first fleet in Mexico to switch exclusively to circle hooks for live-bait fishing. Many of its captains fish more than 300 days a year, and its staff are full-time employees, many of whom spend their whole careers there. The fleet runs from 23-foot pangas through standard, midsize and large sportfishers to luxury yachts.

What to know: their FAQ says prices exclude 16% sales tax and lists fishing licenses ($18.50 per person per day), live bait and lunches as extras unless you book their All-Inclusive package, so compare the total, not the boat price. Pisces reports a 98.6% billfish release rate, and anglers can tag, name and track released fish online.

Best for: first-time visitors who want the longest-established name in Cabo, conservation-minded anglers, and groups needing a wide range of boat sizes.

Starting at: $300 for a panga on their charter page. Standard boats from $540, midsize from $850, large from $1,900, luxury from $1,350 (their homepage shows different starting prices, so ask about the specific boat).

#3 — Picante Sportfishing

Founded: 1995 | Fleet: 9 sportfishers (31'–45') plus a 110' yacht | Starting price: $1,282

Picante positions itself as the premier tournament fleet in Cabo San Lucas, and its record backs the claim. The company was established in 1995, after a 993-pound blue marlin caught on the 40-foot Picante at the 1994 Bisbee's, and it reports more than $4.6 million in tournament winnings. Seven of its nine sportfishing boats are Cabo Express or Cabo Flybridge models.

Alongside the sportfishers, Picante lists the 110-foot Panache luxury yacht for groups of up to 20. Their FAQ says fishing licenses, lunch and drinks are provided; the crew tip is not included.

What to know: Picante is a premium operation with pricing to match. Their fleet page lists "starting at" prices from $1,282 to $6,243 without saying which are half days and which are full days, so ask. There are no pangas or budget options. This is a fleet built for serious offshore fishing and tournament competition.

Best for: experienced anglers who want to fish on tournament-proven Cabo Yachts, groups willing to invest in a premium charter, and anyone chasing big billfish.

#4 — Cabo Magic Sportfishing

Founded: 1999 | Fleet: 27 boats (24'–92') | Starting price: $450

Cabo Magic was officially established in 1999 by Tommy and Lori Garcia and offers private charters from 24-foot cruisers to a 92-foot yacht with two chefs. Their homepage says every charter includes fishing licenses, live bait, tackle, food and cold drinks. This is where fishing meets luxury.

The fleet has 9 cruisers from 24 to 33 feet ($450 to $650 for a half day on the 24'–28' boats), six 35-foot Cabo Express and Sedan boats at $1,500 half day or $1,700 full day, sportfishers up to 60 feet ($5,000 to $7,000 full day), and yachts of 70 and 92 feet. The 70-foot yacht has a chef and four Seakeeper stabilizers; several boats list Starlink.

What to know: the price includes food and drinks, which most fleets charge for. Their site does not say whether tax is included, so ask when you book.

Best for: corporate groups, celebrations, and anyone who wants food, drinks and luxury amenities as much as (or more than) the fishing itself.

Starting at: $450 for a half day on a 24-foot cruiser. The 92-foot yacht runs $9,000 for a full day or $4,500 for a 3-hour cruise.

#5 — Lands End Charters

Founded: 2012 | Fleet: 37 boats (22'–90') | Starting price: $315 + licenses

Lands End operates one of the largest fleets on this list, with 37 boats from a 22-foot panga to the 90-foot Tourbillon ($6,570). The company opened in 2012, and the family behind it has been in Cabo San Lucas for more than sixty years. They list ten consecutive TripAdvisor awards, from 2017 to 2026.

Lands End's pricing is the most competitive at the entry level. Their 22-foot Crazy Tuna starts at $315 for up to 3 anglers, and most boats are $19 to $149 cheaper when you book at least 30 days ahead. On boats from 22 to 50 feet the price includes live bait (5 pieces half day, 10 full day), fuel, dock fees and taxes. Billfish are 100% catch and release.

What to know: the fleet page doesn't say whether the $315 is a half or a full day (their homepage quotes half days from $450 and full days from $850). Their FAQ says fishing licenses are bought separately, for everyone over 13. With 37 boats, ask which boat and captain you will have.

Best for: budget-conscious anglers looking for the lowest entry price in Cabo, large groups that need a wide selection, and anyone planning more than a week ahead (cancel 7+ days out for a refund minus $50).

#6 — Caliente Sportfishing

Caliente has built a strong reputation among repeat Cabo visitors for their gear quality. Anglers on fishing forums specifically praise their use of LP lures, dredges, and top-of-the-line terminal tackle. If you are an experienced angler who cares about the equipment as much as the boat, Caliente is worth researching.

What to know: Caliente maintains a smaller fleet compared to the companies listed above. Detailed pricing and fleet information is best obtained by contacting them directly.

Best for: Experienced anglers who prioritize premium tackle and gear, repeat Cabo visitors looking for a hands-on operation.

#7 — Mucho Loco Fleet

Captain Rafael's Mucho Loco Fleet is one of the most-recommended charters on fishing forums like The Hull Truth and BloodyDecks. Multiple anglers have posted that Mucho Loco is the only fleet to use and that while all major outfitters in Cabo are good, none compare with Mucho Loco for consistently putting clients on marlin, dorado, wahoo, and tuna.

What to know: Mucho Loco's reputation is built almost entirely on word-of-mouth from serious anglers. They maintain a smaller operation with a personal touch. Detailed fleet and pricing information is best obtained by contacting Captain Rafael directly.

Best for: Repeat Cabo visitors, anglers who trust forum recommendations over marketing, and anyone looking for a captain-driven personal experience.

What to Look for When Booking a Cabo Fishing Charter

Not all charter prices mean the same thing. A $500 charter that adds $28 per person for licenses, $50 for live bait, and 16% tax ends up costing more than a $650 charter that includes everything. Here is what to check before you book.

Is the fleet company-owned or brokered?

Some companies own every boat they run; others work with a network of local boat owners and captains. What matters is whether the company picks the boats and crews, knows them personally, and tells you exactly which boat and captain you get. At Top Anglers you choose the specific boat when you book, and its captain is named on the boat page.

Whatever the model, ask which specific boat you will be on and whether that is guaranteed.

What is actually included?

The word "all-inclusive" means different things to different operators. Before you book, confirm whether the price covers: captain and crew (always included), fishing licenses (usually included, but $18-28 per person at some operators), tackle and gear (always included), live bait (usually included, but $30-50 surcharge at some operators), ice and water (usually included), dock and marina fees (sometimes extra, can add $25-50), Mexico 16% IVA tax (sometimes extra, can add 16% to the quoted price), and fuel (usually included, surcharge possible on extended trips).

Most Cabo charters require a deposit and have cancellation windows ranging from 24 hours to 7 days. Booking through third-party platforms like FishingBooker often means stricter cancellation terms, including non-refundable bookings. When you book direct with a charter company, you typically have more flexibility to reschedule.

Captain and crew experience

Ask how long the captain has been fishing Cabo waters. The best captains know the seasonal patterns, the underwater structure, and the daily bait movements that put you on fish. Tournament results are a useful proxy for captain quality. A captain who competes at Bisbee's or the CIPS World Championship brings that same knowledge and intensity to your charter.

Book Direct vs. Booking Platforms

Platforms like FishingBooker and TripAdvisor list 100+ Cabo charters in one place, which is convenient for comparison shopping. But there are trade-offs.

When you book through a platform, the charter operator pays a commission. That cost either gets passed to you through higher pricing or absorbed by the operator, sometimes by assigning a less premium boat. Multiple forum discussions on The Hull Truth and BloodyDecks report that platform bookings can result in leftover boats after the best vessels are booked direct.

When you book direct with a charter company, you choose the exact boat and captain, communicate directly before your trip, and avoid middleman fees.
