What was biting
Dorado (mahi-mahi)
Lots of dorado in good sizes, a few miles offshore, on trolled lures and live bait.
Striped marlin
The striped marlin season was in full swing along the Golden Gate Bank and Cabo Falso. Matteo and Francesco from Italy had five strikes before noon. We encourage releasing billfish and follow the local rule of one per boat per day.
Wahoo
The full moon in October started a strong wahoo bite. Carlos from California landed three big wahoo in two days, plus some marlin and dorado.
Roosterfish
A few nice roosterfish early in the period, then the bite slowed, with small jacks and bonito along the beaches.
Yellowfin tuna
Yellowfin were scarce close to shore, with sightings 15–25 miles out.
Also seen: Pacific sailfish. Sailfish were still around, less often than in September.

How we put this report together
This report is based on what our captains and crews reported from their trips during these dates, and on their photos. Photos of billfish out of the water are not shown. Water temperatures come from NOAA and moon phases are calculated for Cabo San Lucas time. This report was updated in October 2026 to this format.
