What was biting
Dorado (mahi-mahi)
Dorado were the fish of the month in our crews’ photos: colorful, acrobatic and great eating.
Yellowfin tuna
Yellowfin tuna showed up in good sizes for the warm-water season. A full day gives your captain time to look for porpoise and birds, the signs that tuna are close.
Wahoo
Wahoo, the fastest fish we chase, hit lures on the troll. Expect a short, hard run and razor teeth: your crew handles the gaff and the hooks.
Striped marlin
Striped marlin and sailfish kept anglers busy offshore. In Cabo we follow a local rule of one billfish per boat per day, and we encourage releasing them.
Also seen: Pacific sailfish.

Planning a trip for this time of year?
September and October are some of the best months to fish Cabo for variety: billfish, dorado and tuna can all happen on the same day. Book a full day (about 8 hours) on a sportfisher so your captain can run where the fish are.

How we put this report together
This report is based on the photos our captains and crews sent from their trips during these dates. We don’t publish catch numbers we can’t verify. Water temperatures come from NOAA and moon phases are calculated for Cabo San Lucas time.
