What was biting

Dorado (mahi-mahi)

Dorado were the most common fish in our crews’ photos, many of them big males with the tall, square forehead that gives bull dorado their name.

Roosterfish

Roosterfish were caught close to the beaches near Land’s End. They fight hard on light tackle and are a top target for half-day trips.

Yellowfin tuna

Yellowfin tuna came in on the offshore trips, a good sign of the summer tuna season starting.

Striped marlin

Striped marlin were still around at the tail end of their season. We encourage releasing billfish and follow the local rule of one per boat per day.

Planning a trip for this time of year?

Late June is a sweet spot: dorado and roosterfish close to shore, tuna and marlin offshore. For roosterfish, a half day on a panga is enough. For dorado and tuna, a full day on a sportfisher.
