- The water warmed fast: about 80°F on July 1, 84°F by mid-month and 85°F (29.7°C) by the end of July.

What was biting
Pacific sailfish
Early July belonged to the sailfish, with their tall, dark-blue dorsal fin and long bill. They hunt close to the surface, so they are one of the most exciting fish to see jump.
Yellowfin tuna
Yellowfin tuna were the most reliable fish of the month. Late July brought some big fish back to the dock for photos.
Wahoo
Wahoo showed up in late July, a fast, hard-fighting bonus fish.
Striped marlin
Striped marlin and at least one big blue marlin were caught in late July, a sign that the summer blue marlin season had started. We encourage releasing billfish and follow the local rule of one per boat per day.
Also seen: Blue marlin.

How we put this report together
This report is based on the photos our captains and crews sent from their trips during these dates. We don’t publish catch numbers we can’t verify. Water temperatures come from NOAA and moon phases are calculated for Cabo San Lucas time.
