Captain Juan Carlos Juárez Abazán has been fishing for about 30 years, 18 of them as a captain. Born in Guerrero, he learned the trade from Captain Jaime Hernández, who has spent more than 45 years at the helm. He has run boats along both of Mexico’s coasts, from Cancún to Ensenada, and speaks some English.

$1,435 for a half day (about 5 hours) or $1,535 for a full day (about 8 hours), including one Mexican fishing license. Each extra license is $29. You pay a 50% deposit online; the balance is paid at the dock.
