Top Anglers Fishing Report — October 16 to November 2, 2025

Baja California Sur | Cabo San Lucas | Sea of Cortez

As the fall season peaks in Baja California Sur, the waters surrounding Cabo San Lucas and the Sea of Cortez have come alive with incredible action. The Top Anglers Charters team has spent the last two weeks chasing some of the most exciting bites we’ve seen all year — and the results have been nothing short of spectacular.

Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) Madness

October delivered what anglers dream of — tons of dorado, locally known as mahi-mahi, in prime size and abundance. These colorful, acrobatic fish have been hitting hard just a few miles offshore. Most boats have been returning with multiple hookups per trip, and the average size has been impressive.

Dorado are taking a mix of trolled lures, and live bait, and they’ve made for non-stop action throughout late October. With sea temperatures holding steady and bait schools plentiful, this dorado bite shows no sign of slowing down.

Striped Marlin Steal the Show

Our striped marlin season is in full swing — and we’ve seen extraordinary numbers along the Golden Gate Bank and Cabo Falso.

Just ask our friends Matteo and Francesco from Italy, who experienced an unforgettable day on the water with five striped marlin strikes before noon. These fish are aggressive, acrobatic, and pure adrenaline — offering some of the most thrilling battles in sportfishing.

Captains have reported marlin feeding actively on bait balls pushed close to the surface by porpoises, creating spectacular topwater shows.

Wahoo on the Hunt

October’s full moon triggered a solid wahoo bite, and some of the largest fish of the season have been landed recently. Our friend Carlos from California had an exceptional run — boating three massive wahoo in two days, along with a few bonus marlin and dorado.

High-speed trolling and deep-diving lures have produced consistent action. For anglers looking for a true speed demon, now is the time to chase these razor-toothed predators.

Roosterfish & Inshore Action

Inshore fishing brought a few nice roosterfish early in the period, but the bite has tapered off in recent days. We’ve seen smaller jacks and some bonito along the beaches, but most of the action remains offshore for now.

If conditions stay calm, roosterfish could make another appearance soon, especially near the rocky points and sandy stretches east of Cabo.

Sailfish & Tuna — Slower but Promising Signs

Sailfish are still showing up, though less frequently than in September. The occasional catch adds excitement to the mix — especially for those chasing a Baja Grand Slam (marlin, sailfish, dorado, and tuna in one trip).

Yellowfin tuna, on the other hand, have been scarce close to shore, but we’ve had promising sightings 15–25 miles offshore. Larger tuna schools may be on the move with the next current shift, so stay tuned — this could change quickly.

Conditions & Outlook

Sea temperatures are hovering around 82–85°F, with clear blue water and light winds most mornings. The bite window has been strongest between 7:00 a.m. and noon, though the dorado and wahoo have been hitting throughout the day.

As we move deeper into November, expect continued marlin activity and a potential tuna resurgence as cooler water currents arrive.
